BIOGRAPHY
I design and build privately commissioned contemporary custom furniture for individual clients and designers from my shop in San Diego, Ca. Having studied traditional methods of furniture-making and classical marquetry with some of today’s modern masters, I am able to combine beautiful materials, premium craftsmanship and a touch of artistry to create one-of-a-kind custom furniture of the highest caliber. In recent years my furniture has won numerous Best Of Show and 1st Place Awards in regional and national exhibitions including Best Of Show at the 2007 International Design In Wood Exhibition and Best of Show at the 2007 Artistry In Wood Exhibition at the Sonoma County Museum of Art for two contemporary marquetry embellished furniture pieces. More recently my Art Deco Chess Table won Best of Show at the 2009 Artistry In Wood Exhibition. For years I have been focused on continual development of the skills required to create custom furniture of the highest possible caliber for my discerning clients. In this way I attempt to fill the basic need of a functional object with creative detailed work far exceeding expectations. By combining beautiful materials and the best craftsmanship in every piece I build, I look to deliver only the finest quality to every client. As a furniture maker my work evolves by blending the clients physical, practical and artistic needs with my desire to create individual objects with intensity and feeling. To this end I incorporate marquetry imagery in the form of flowers, branches and animals into select pieces of my furniture. I design subtle floral ornamentations, enhancing my furniture with classical marquetry; the ancient art of creating imagery from thin pieces of exotic wood, metal and shell and applying them to furniture. My marquetry furniture combines the structural geometry of a man made object with the asymmetry of nature represented in flower and leaf patterns and motifs. I see the addition of decorative marquetry as a doorway into unique and exiting visual forms and more expressive freedom. |
